Welcome to another edition of The Earned Edge. There is a special invitation at the end of this post.

The Welcome and Foundation Sequence

When you build a house, you do not start by picking out the paint colors for the guest room or buying the living room furniture. You start with the dirt. You dig a hole, pour the concrete, and let it set.

Only when that solid, non-negotiable foundation is in place can you safely start building.

Your email list works the exact same way. Before you worry about the stylistic details of what weekly content you will send, you must pour the concrete. Your first three emails to a new subscriber build that essential structure for your entire relationship.

But I know exactly what happens when you sit down to write them.

The Blank Page Paralysis

You understand exactly why you need a curated welcome experience. You want to be a good host. But when you sit down at your desk and open a blank document, you freeze.

You wonder what you are supposed to say. You wonder how many emails you actually need to send. The thought of sitting down to write a dozen brilliant, brand new messages from scratch feels entirely overwhelming.

So, the document stays blank. Your new subscribers hear nothing, and they wander into your world without a map.

We get stuck because we believe a lie. We believe that a nurture sequence requires us to generate entirely new, groundbreaking ideas.

The truth is much more of a relief. Your nurture sequence should simply be a greatest hits album of your existing pillar content.

Its only purpose is to deliver your most proven and valuable ideas in a logical order. You do not need to create anything new. You simply need to curate what you already have.

The Architecture of a Proper Welcome

If I had a dollar for every internet marketer who has recommended a complex, seven-day automated sales funnel with countdown timers, I could retire and stop writing emails altogether.

You do not need complexity. Current research into email best practices shows that lengthy, aggressive sequences actually train readers to ignore you. The highest-converting, most respectful welcome sequences rely on a simple, three-part arc.

Here is what that foundation looks like and why it works:

  • Email 1: The Welcome and The Big Promise.
Sent immediately. This email confirms they made a good choice by subscribing, tells them exactly what to expect from you, and sets the tone for your relationship. It ends by telling them to watch their inbox later today for a crucial concept.

  • Email 2: The Core Reframe.
Sent a few hours after the first. This email introduces your single most important idea. You do not even need to write the whole lesson in the email. You simply introduce the concept and link to your best existing blog post, podcast, or video that explains your core philosophy. It ends by teasing a real-world example coming this evening.

  • Email 3: The Proof and The Path.
Sent six hours after the first. This final foundational email shares a short client story or case study. It provides proof that your method works in the real world, and then it gently introduces your paid offer as the next logical step on their path.

"You cannot build a great building on a weak foundation. You must have a solid foundation if you are going to have a strong superstructure."

— Gordon B. Hinckley

Building this sequence is not a marketing tactic. It is an act of service. You are curating a learning path, saving your new subscriber from the overwhelm of your archives, and guiding them directly to the transformation you provide.

NOTE: You might be wondering why I recommend sending all three of these emails in a single day. It sounds counterintuitive, doesn't it? We are so afraid of "bothering" people.

But here is what the data shows: your Welcome Sequence emails have a higher open rate than any other emails you will ever send. When someone first subscribes, you have their complete attention. If you send all three messages on that first day—each ending with a simple note to watch for the next email—you capitalize on that momentum while you are front of mind. You leave a lasting impression and set the stage for developing raving fans, rather than an unengaged audience who forgets who you are by tomorrow.

Quick Win

You do not need to write all three emails today. I just want you to do one thing.

Find the link to your single best, most foundational blog post, video, or podcast episode. Copy that link and save it somewhere safe.

That link is the entire core of your second email. You are already a third of the way done.

A Special Invitation - This week only

We just talked about welcoming your new subscribers. But what are you welcoming them to? Building a business that serves is challenging, and if we are being honest, it can be incredibly lonely.

You are the CEO, the tech department, and the marketing team all rolled into one. It is easy to get overwhelmed and start collecting courses that just gather dust on your hard drive, hoping one of them holds the magic answer.

That is why I want to make a helpful invitation to you today. I want to share a resource called The BC Stack, which I have purchased every single year since 2021 because the value is simply unmatched.

Here is what makes this year's collection so remarkably helpful:

  • 55+ Complete Courses and Masterclasses: You get comprehensive access to a massive library of expert training for just $59. My AI Findability Fix Kit is included this year.

  • Step-by-Step Guidance: Experts Dan and Rachel are hosting special trainings to walk you through exactly how to grow your business, step by step.

  • Strategic Application: As they guide you, Dan and Rachel will highlight exactly when and how to use the specific courses within the stack, so they actually get used instead of becoming another wasted expense.

Instead of feeling lost in a sea of information, you will have a clear roadmap. You will know exactly which tool to pull from your vault, and exactly when to use it to move your business forward.

The BC Stack is only available June 8th through June 14th. If you are tired of trying to figure out every moving part by yourself, I highly recommend picking this up to support your journey.

Thank you for reading. If you know someone who has decades of wisdom but struggles to share it online, please forward this email to them. It might be exactly what they need today.
